Colloquium: Generative AI in the Mathematics Classroom

Abstract. What does generative AI mean for the teaching and learning of mathematics? In this talk, I explore that question through examples from my own classroom and insights from the Teaching Mathematics with Generative AI seminar group. We will look at how instructors are using these tools for course design, student support, assessment, and classroom practice. We will consider both the opportunities and the concerns, including how to encourage meaningful and rigorous mathematical learning in a rapidly changing environment.
