Knots and Braids…with a little bit of dance!

Nancy Scherich, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Department of Mathematics & Statistics, Elon University

October 3, 2024 11:00 am

Abstract: This talk will be a friendly introduction to the mathematical study of knots and braids. Graduate students and enthusiastic undergrads are encouraged to attend. We will learn some of the foundational theorems in knot theory and see how algebra and topology are important in the study of knots. As both a mathematician and award winning dancer, Dr. Scherich will use dance videos as visual aids to explain the higher math concepts.
